  • I can rise with the occasion. My thoughts and actions of my addictive past were inadequate then, and inadequate in the present. In recovery I can think and act in a new and different way. I can seek and find opportunities for growth and positive change in every difficult circumstance. I can rise with the occasion!
  • I have a program of recovery. It tells me that courage is not the absence of fear. It says that I must acknowledge my fear. It teaches me that courage is the willingness to do the right thing in spite of my fear.
  • of moments I can stay in the moment, with no regrets for yesterday or worrying about tomorrow. I'm grateful to try and fill this day with simple moments of good - seen, heard, and accomplished. Today, my inner dialog will try to be positive. When today has ended, I'll look back at it with satisfaction, serenity, and gratitude.
  • my life has taken on new meaning. The experience of contact with others, in person, the shaking of hands, the sharing of names, our contact info, our stories, our common bond, and knowing we'll meet again as friends. It's human, honest, and fulfilling to share meaningful time with others in this fellowship of recovery.

Genuine human connection is necessary, essential, but it requires significant intention on my part.
  • I can overcome the uncertainty in my life with hope. Hope creates a positive self dialog for me. Hope implies little certainty, but it does suggest a confidence and assurance that what I long for could happen, despite all uncertainty.
  • my program of recovery guides me toward positive values. I find these values as I meditate on the spiritual principles of the 12 steps.
  • I have a program of recovery, and that's what matters most. Surely life on life's terms matters, but it must revolve around my sobriety being first. It's my program of recovery that matters and provides me with the tools of acceptance, courage and wisdom I seek, no matter what life brings my way.
  • all I have to do is ask. Regardless of the hardship, there's my higher power out there that I can tap into. When I seek knowledge with guidance, strength or courage, all I have to do is ask.
  • there are benefits that come from quiet moments. It's not an empty time. I can pledge another day of sobriety. I can find gratitude for my blessings and give thanks. I can smile with knowledge of the good I'll plan and provide just for today, one day at a time.
